Time certainly flies when you are having fun August already! Our group is constantly evolving and we are so fortunate to be able to continue to welcome new families. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Kate Bennett but she is willing to help when needed. We have since welcomed Elisha Le Moignan and Sue Newman who come along on a regular basis as volunteers. Their support is much appreciated especially now that we are constantly busy.
It has really been a great year so far and we have done some amazing activities and had some really memorable trips out. We once again visited Devon Windsurf and Canoe Centre at Decoy Park, Newton Abbot. The children were fantastic at kayaking and to top it off we had a lovely BBQ in the rain!
We have also had a very successful day out in Teignmouth where the children went crabbing. Despite a yellow weather warning, we managed to have a great time.
As well as some trips out, we have also had some brilliant sessions at Orchard Manor and have done some great activities. We were lucky enough to be visited by Spike Liddington and the children absolutely loved his entertainment. We are now able to make use of the swimming pool and this has proved extremely popular, the children really love being in the water. The children take great pleasure from making and cooking and being able to take their crafts home with them. We are only able to offer these amazing activities, crafts, cooking and music because of the funding we receive from our local community. Giving our children the chance to make things really boosts their self-confidence and to see them smiling and laughing without a care in the world is absolutely priceless.
We consider ourselves to be very fortunate as donations continue to come in on a regular basis. Without these donations, it would be impossible for us to continue to support our families. We received £115.00 from Colin Ashby from further sales of his book. We managed to raise £113.00 at Luscombe Fete. We have received the sum of £1,125.00 from Tesco through their Community Grant Scheme. The Mid-Devon Cycling Club have donated £320.00 from a trip out and are also going to donate the proceeds from the Dartmoor Classic Cycle Race held in July. They are going to come and visit us to present us with a cheque. Our sponsored walk managed to raise £2,114.32 this year, thanks to all at Turf Hotel for their hospitality.
The Cuddly Toy Gang have donated £500.00 from Ashcombe Bingo sessions. Roma Willis very kindly donated £50.00 in lieu of 80th Birthday presents. Finally, Chris Cole has given us the huge sum of £1,010.00 raised from his 80th Birthday Celebrations held at The Swan Inn, Dawlish. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has made donations, the support we provide to our families is invaluable and every single penny helps.
It has been a very busy few months but it is a constant joy to see our children flourish, enjoy themselves and to continue to thrive. The support provided by our amazing little group is invaluable and I receive constant praise from our families who are ever grateful for the opportunity to relax at least once a week. This is only possible because of the donations we continue to receive and to the dedication of our amazing team. Thank you all for making a difference.
